John M. Peixinho Sr. was called to rest peacefully on Oct. 11, 2007 lovingly amongst family and friends. Born in Fall River, MA, on Oct. 1, 1910, he was the son of the late John M. and Theresa Peixinho. Mr. Peixinho was preceded in death by his beloved wife Evangelina Costa Peixinho to whom he was married for fifty-nine years prior to her demise in February of 1990. He was also the brother of the now deceased Manuel Peixinho, Mary Rebello, Antone Mederios, Joseph Mederios and is survived by a remaining sister Sarah Berube. John for forty years with his wife was the proprietor of the Maplewood Superette and Maplewood Package Stores on Stafford Road in Fall River. He was active in several religious, civic and political organizations among them the Knight's of Columbus and the Democratic Party of Fall River. He had a life long love of the Boston Red Sox and joyfully remembered as a young man seeing Babe Ruth play at Fenway Park against the Red Sox. He is survived by a son John M. Peixinho Jr. of Portsmouth R.I., daughters Evelyn Fernandes of Lehigh Acres Fla., Marilyn Armburg of Santa Fe N.M. and Marie Rapoza of Port St. Lucie Fla. In addition he was the grandfather of six, the great grandfather of three and the uncle of numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral was held Monday, October 15th, in St. Dominic's Church, with committal and Entombment at Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Donations in Mr. Peixinho's name can be made to the Hospice of Community Visiting Nurses, 10 Emory St, Attleboro MA 02703.
