John R. Ponte, 79, formerly of Blossom Rd, Westport, husband of the late Gertrude C. (Dion) Ponte, died Thursday 11/26/15 at Catholic Memorial Home. Born in Fall River, son of the late John & Alice (Forneiro) Ponte, he was a graduate of Bryant College, and lived in California for 25 years employed as a Trust Officer & VP at Crocker Nat'l Bank. He moved back to Westport in 1984 and worked at St Anne's Hospital as an ER tech for about 15 years. He leaves: 2 children, Claire Ponte-Goncalves (husband Guilherme) of Westport & Elizabeth Ponte (husband Patrick Flynn) of Fall River; 4 siblings, David Ponte of Westport, Lorraine Manuel of Naples, FL, Pauline Souza of New York, Louise Cardoza of Maine; a granddaughter, Juliana Goncalves; many nieces & nephews. Also father of the late John Michael Ponte; and brother of the late George Ponte, Alice Teixeira & Francis Ponte. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, December 4th, in St. Stanislaus Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
