Fall River
John "Moose" Raposa, Jr., 90, of Fall River, husband of the late Lorraine (Costa) Raposa, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, after an illness. Born in, and a lifelong resident of, Fall River, he was a son of the late John L. Raposa and the late Margaret (Couto) Raposa.
Employed as a welder and welding instructor at the Quincy Shipyard for 35 years, he truly enjoyed teaching his craft, and earned the title of Senior Welding Instructor. He then worked another 17 years with Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding of Somerset. A US Air Force veteran, he was proud to have served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict.
With a lifetime passion for the ocean, John greatly enjoyed boating and fishing, and was known for his unparalleled open-water navigational skills. He was also a founding member and longtime president of the St. John's Fishing Club. Only his wife and family he loved more than the sea.
He is survived by: two sons, Michael A. Raposa (wife Eileen) of Fall River and Christopher J. Raposa (fiancée Lisa Coury) of Somerset; Dennise Lambert, who was like a daughter; six siblings, Alice Tucker of Fall River, twins Helen Gallant of So. Attleboro and Anna Arruda of Westport, Margaret Raposa of Westfield, MA, William Raposa of Tiverton, and Patricia Monfils of Rehoboth; two grandchildren, Kelsey Rae Raposa and Ashley Raposa; and many nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Charles Raposa.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, November 13th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal with military honors at Notre Dame Cemetery.
