John M. Resendes, 55, of Lowell, husband of Martha (Ferreira) Resendes, passed away on December 27, 2018, at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, after a short illness. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Joao P. Resendes and the late Mariazinha (Medeiros) Resendes, he emigrated to Fall River in 1974.

Since 1989 he resided in Lowell, where he owned and operated Friends Restaurant & Pub. John was a huge sports fan, who greatly enjoyed golfing and fishing. He also loved his summer home in St. Michael, " Fajã do Calhau ." He will be missed by many family and friends.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: his mother-in-law, Fernanda (Cordeiro) Ferreira (late husband Alfredo) of Lowell; a sister, Celina Rocha (husband Paulo) of Fall River; a brother, Carlos Resendes (wife Nelia) of Kingston, MA; a brother/sister-in-law, Clement & Goreti Raposo; 4 nieces, Christine, Melinda, Caitlin, and Emma; a nephew, Derek; and his "furry kids" (2 dogs), Tara and Max.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, January 3rd, in St Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St Patrick Cemetery.
