Obituary

John J. "Jake" Roberts, Jr.,79, of Somerset, husband of Jacqueline (Bacon) Roberts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Blue Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton following a long illness. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late John J. Roberts and the late Camilla (Primo) Roberts. Prior to his retirement, Jake was a civil engineer for the Massachusetts Highway Department for almost 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves, 483rd Engineers for six years and was a graduate of BMC Durfee High and UMASS Lowell.

Jake enjoyed spending time with his family, taking vacations, dining out, woodworking, visiting the casino, and talking. He loved to talk and possessed such a diverse vast knowledge that was quite impressive.  Although his conversations would often be lengthy, he would brighten even the darkest of days with his sense of humor. Jake loved sports and was an avid Patriots fan; he was a season ticket holder for many years.

Those who knew Jake know that he truly cared about and loved helping others. He would go above and beyond and it didn't matter if he knew you for years or just met you. Jake touched the lives of so many, especially those on the softball field.  He volunteered countless hours both on and off the field for the Somerset Girls Softball League.  Coach Jake's passion and commitment to this league were remarkable.  His thirty-plus years of dedication led to him being awarded the John S. Brayton. Jr. Memorial Community Service Award.  He loved when he would run into former players around town and you can bet his first question was "how ya hittin 'em?"

Jake, Papa Jake, Coach Jake, Jake the Snake, was an incredible person and has left an impact on the lives of many and will be forever missed.

Besides his loving and caring wife of 53 years, he leaves his daughter, Cristin Monestime, and her husband, Frantz "Paco", of Fall River; his four grandchildren, Nicholas, Brittney, Jordan, and Ava; one great-grandchild, Jordany; a sister, Gail Coughlin of Burke, Virginia; his brother, Charles Roberts of East Greenwich, Rhode Island; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late David Roberts.

His funeral arrangements by the Silva-Faria Funeral Homes were private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to: Alzheimer's Research Association at www.alzheimersresearchfoundation.com .
