Obituary

MSC John Tenchara, Jr., USN-RET, age 79, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at the St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, MA, following a brief illness. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late John Tenchara, Sr., and the late Minnie (Machado) Tenchara. Over his lengthy career with the United States Navy he was stationed across the globe and also served on the USS Baltimore, USS Simon Lake and the USS Huntley. On June 2, 1953, he was on the Baltimore with a fleet of ships in London, England, to represent the United States at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. John retired from the Navy in 1981 at the Naval Weapons Station Charleston. He continued to reside in South Carolina for twelve years before returning to Fall River in 1993. Surviving family members include his daughter, Mrs. Albert (Joanne) Coplan of Columbus, OH, two grandchildren, Stephanie Coland and Timothy Coplan, two great grandchildren, Estephaun and Noah, his aunt, Gloria Camara of Fall River, and many cousins & friends. He was also the grandfather of the late Stephen G. Coplan. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Pallbearers Henry Hudon, Rick Farias, and his grandson, Timothy Coplan brought John to his final resting place at St. Patrick Cemetery.
