Obituary

J ohn V. Arruda, 67, of New Bedford, husband of Aderita (Carvalho) Arruda, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at home after a long illness.

Born in Santa Barbara, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Joao and Ines (Viveiros) Arruda.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as a weaver in the local textile industry for many years. A true "handyman", he also loved his trips to Florida. Most importantly, John enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

Besides his wife of forty-six years, he leaves: his loving children, Michael Arruda and his wife, Marilia, of North Dartmouth, Jeffrey Arruda and his companion, Victoria Janeiro, of Fall River, and Stacy Camara and her husband, Derek, of Fairhaven; his two granddaughters, Sierra Arruda and Ava Arruda; sisters, Maria Ines Carvalho (husband, Antonio) and Mariana Rego (late husband, Joao) both of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Auxiliadora Farias and Claudette Tremblay.

Due to the COVID pandemic, John's private funeral was held on Friday, March 15th, from our Fall River Chapel followed by a private committal service at Notre Dame Cemetery. When the current crisis allows, his family is planning to celebrate his life with a Memorial Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church, the details of which will be announced here.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. Being unable to do so, because of this pandemic, all are urged to express sympathy online or by mail.

To ensure that said condolences reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party. Thank you!
