John L. Vieira, 75, of Fall River, husband of Albertina (Arruda) Vieira, died on Jan. 5, 2008 at St. Anne's Hospital after a long illness. Born in Furnas, St Michael Azores, son of the late Antonio and Maria Jose (Beirola) Vieira, he lived in Fall River for the past 40 years. A construction laborer for several years, he was also a carpenter for many years with Branch River Foam & Plastic of Smithfield, RI, until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed sports, especially wrestling. Besides his wife of 53 years, his survivors include: children, Olivia Couto & Joseph Vieira both of Fall River, John Jr, Manuel & Paul Vieira all of the Azores; 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Manuel, Anibal, Antonio, Jose & Jamie Vieira, Cecelia Vieira, Ines Tavares, Maria dos Anjos Pacheco, Conceicao Medeiros and Maria Robitaille. His funeral was celebrated by Rev. Fred Babiczulkat from Good Shepherd Parish Church. Committal services were held at Notre Dame Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joseph Vieira, Robert Couto, Richie Muller and Greg Lopez.
