Jorgina (Arruda) Carvalho, age 54, better know as 'Jorgie', passed away in Tiverton, Rhode Island, on Friday, February 3, 2012, following an illness. A Tiverton resident for many years, she was the widow of Manuel 'Natal' Carvalho. Born in Santo Antonio, on the island Sao Miguel in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Eduardo Arruda and the late Jorgina (Do Rego) Arruda. After residing in the Azores for eighteen years, she emigrated to the United States in 1975, married four years later, and was naturalized with her husband in 1982 as American Citizens. She was employed for many years in the garment trade of Fall River at RIVER LTD, a former apparel shop located at 115 Anawan Street. As her late husband Natal, Jorgie was an active parishioner of Espirito Santo Church, participating in its choir and charismatic group, and was also a member of the former Our Lady of Health Church on Cambridge Street. Surviving family members include her three children; Jennifer Carvalho Arruda, husband Paul, of Tiverton, Kathleen Medeiros, husband Jeffrey, of Swansea, MA, and Nathan Edward Carvalho of Tiverton, eight sisters; Gabriela da Silva and Ana Maria Frias, both of Fall River, Maria de Lourdes Machado of Sao Miguel, Etelvina Medeiros, Helena Chaves, Maria Arruda Penacho, and Paula Guiomar, all of Westport, MA, and Esmeralda Torres of Dartmouth, MA. She also leaves her companion Fernando Fernandes of Fall River, her brothers in law, and several nieces and nephews, and step-granddaughter Mia Arruda. Jorgie was also the sister of the late Antonio Arruda and the late Joao Arruda. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, February 7th at Espirito Santo Church, She was laid to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery.
