Jose
Albernaz
d. Apr 30, 2022
Jose Albernaz, 76, of Westport, husband of Maria (Hilario) Albernaz, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Charlton Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born in Remedios da Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Jose Miguel Albernaz and the late Maria dos Santos (Cabral) Albernaz.
Prior to his retirement he was a carpenter in the construction industry for many years. An avid Benfica fan, he also loved the Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his chickens and rabbits, carpentry, and traveling to the Azores to visit his homeland. But what was most important to Jose was spending quality time with all his family.
Besides his loving wife of fifty-one years, he leaves his daughter, Diana Venafro and her husband, Steven, of Westport; his sisters, Maria Freitas and her husband, Manuel, of Fall River, Isabel Arruda and her husband, John, of Florida, and Odilia Medeiros and her husband, James, of Berkley; his brothers, Antonio Albernaz and his wife, Maria Jose, Manuel Albernaz and his wife, Tina, and Alfred Albernaz and his wife, Dolores, all of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews.
His private funeral was held on Thursday, May 5th, from our Fall River Chapel with His Funeral Mass being celebrated in Espirito Santo Church followed by his private committal and internment at Pocasset Hill Cemetery in Tiverton. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Jose's memory to: Friends of Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., SW120, Boston, MA 02215.
