Jose R.
Antunes
d. Feb 1, 2025
Jose R. Antunes, of Fall River, husband of the late Maria (Sousa) Antunes, passed away peacefully in his 100th year on Saturday, February 1, 2025 following a long illness. Born on the island of Madeira, he was a son of the late Joaquim Antunes and the late Joaquina Freitas.
Prior to his retirement he worked as maintenance man for local supermarkets for many years. He loved gardening, tending to his grapevines, making his own wine, and traveling to such places as the Caribbean, Florida, Brazil, and back to his homeland in Portugal to visit family. An avid Benfica fan, he also enjoyed the outdoors and hiking. Most notably, he valued the quality time he spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves his loving children, Roque Antunes of Portugal, Martinho Antunes of Fall River, Jordan Antunes and his wife, Nancy, of Waltham, Teresa Rogers (late husband, James) of Fall River, and Salete Antunes-Kenyon and her husband, Steven, of Taunton; his grandchildren, Ashley Rogers-Wheet (Carson), Eric Antunes, Kristen Antunes, and Christina Kenyon; his great-grandchildren, Catia Wheet and Dania Wheet; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Manuel Antunes and the brother of the late Manuel Antunes, Joaquina Sousa, Conceicao Antunes, Erondina Antunes, and Merces Antunes.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, February 5th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
