Jose Batista, 68, of Fall River, husband of Georgina (Goulart) Batista, died unexpectedly Sunday March 11, 2012 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in St. Michael, Azores, son of Natalia (Moura) Batista, of Fall River, and the late Antonio Batista, he emigrated to Fall River in 1969. He was employed at Quaker Fabrics for over 20 years. A well-known soccer referee with the Luzo American Soccer Association, he was a founder of the local soccer club, Porto. He also started a soccer league originally called Liga Fabril. Besides his wife & mother, he leaves: a son, Joseph Batista of Fall River; 2 grandchildren, Shane & Tristan; 2 siblings, Liberal Batista & Eulalia Cura both of Fall River; several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated in St Anthony of Padua Church. His burial was private.
