Jose M.
Cabral
d. Dec 31, 2024
Jose M. Cabral, 86, of Fall River passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at Southpointe Rehabilitation Center after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was surrounded by his loving family members in his final moments. He was the beloved husband of Lucilia (Medeiros) Cabral for 60 years.
Jose was born in Água de Pau, São Miguel, Azores. He was the son of the late Manuel S. Cabral and the late Maria (Vieira) Cabral. Besides his wife of 60 years, he is survived by: four children, Carminda Aguiar (husband John) of Swansea, Rosalina Landers (husband Carl) of Dartmouth, Ana Harrop (husband Gene) of Fall River, and Ozzie Cabral (wife Jennifer) of Swansea; six grandchildren, Vanessa, Jake, Tristen, Dylan, Madison, and Mason; two great grandchildren, Julian and Mila; and many nieces and nephews. Jose was predeceased by his siblings, Maria do Carmo Cabral Amaral, Miguel Cabral, and Maria Angelina Cabral Motas.
Jose emigrated to Fall River in 1974 with his wife and four children, seeking a better life for his family. He worked tirelessly in the textile industry at Joan Fabric, where he was a dedicated and respected employee until his retirement in 2004.
Jose was a loving husband, devoted and supportive dad, and proud and giving Vovo and Bisavo (grandfather and great grandfather). He was a man of many passions and a joyful presence to all who knew him. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in caring for his grapevines, often sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He loved listening to Portuguese music, which brought him comfort and joy. He loved to travel, especially visiting his beloved Island of São Miguel and Martha's Vineyard. Known for his quick wit and great sense of humor, Jose had a unique ability to make people smile and laugh. His warmth and charm made everyone enjoy being in his presence.
On behalf of Jose, we would like to thank our family and friends who showed him unconditional love all these years as he battled with Parkinsons Disease. We would like to thank all his caregivers over the years who took such good care of him, the staff at Southpointe Rehabilitation Center for all the loving and attentive care they provided over the last six months and Compassionate Care Hospice for all the care they provided to ensure Jose received all the necessary care.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, January 8th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
