Obituary

Jose do Carmo Silva, 78, of Somerset, husband of the late Isaltina M. Silva, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022 at home following a long illness. Born in Rabo de Peixe, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Antonio Tavares Silva and the late Flora (Tavares) Silva.

Prior to his retirement he was a machine operator in the local textile industry for many years. He loved gardening, wine making and home renovations. He enjoyed traveling to such places as Portugal, the Caribbean, Italy, and Florida. In his younger days, he also enjoyed farming in his homeland in the Azores. But what was most important to Jose was spending quality time with all of his family, especially his grandchildren.

He leaves his loving children, David J. Silva and his husband, Rene Monge Mejia of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Marco P. Silva of Fall River, and Stephanie Louro and her husband, Philip, of Westport; his four grandchildren, Kolby Silva, Jacob Louro, Benjamin Louro, and Madelyn Louro; his siblings, Filomena Aguiar, Perpetua Soccoro Vieira, Domingos DaSilva, Paul DaSilva, Luis DaSilva, and Francisca Oliveira, all of Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Maria Conceição Silva, Leonal DaSilva, Joao de Brito Silva, and Antonio Silva.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, December 28th, in St. John of God Church followed by her committal and entombment in the Notre Dame Mausoleum in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Jose's memory to: Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 275 Martine St., Fall River, MA 02723.
