Obituary

Jose J. Costa, 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Janette (Medeiros) Costa, with whom he shared 53 beautiful years of marriage.

Born to Maria (Raposo) Costa and the late Manuel da Costa, Jose is survived by his loving sister Maria C. Medeiros and her husband Manuel Medeiros, as well as his sisters-in-law Shirley DiRaffaele, MaryAnne DeLongchamps, and Margaret Costa. He was predeceased by his beloved brother, Manuel Luis Costa, his father-in-law, Manuel Medeiros, mother-in-law, Mary S. Pandolfini, brother-in-law,  Richard J. Medeiros, and sister-in-law,  Marguerite M. Conaty. Jose also leaves behind many cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who will miss him deeply.

Born in the village of Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, Jose immigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings on April 1, 1966. Six years later, he married the love of his life, Janette Medeiros, and together they made their home on Perkins Avenue in Cranston, where they lived happily for 50 years. A man of great dedication and integrity, Jose worked for Slater Screen Print for many years. He often worked seven days a week and never once complained—taking immense pride in his ability to provide for his family. A devout Catholic, Jose and Janette faithfully listened to church services on the radio and prayed the rosary together. Though Cranston was his home, Jose and his family maintained close ties with loved ones in Fall River, MA. Proud of his Portuguese heritage, he was a lifelong supporter of his childhood football club, Benfica. Above all, Jose was a family man whose love, strength, and devotion will be forever remembered by all who knew him.

Following visitation periods at both the Quinn Funeral Home in Warwick, RI, and here in our Fall River Chapel, His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, October 16th, at Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River followed by his committal at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston, RI.
