Jose P. Couto, 80, husband of Maria C. (Brum) Couto, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. Born in Rabo do Peixe, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Joao do Couto and the late Candida (Pacheco) do Couto, he emigrated in 1960 to Somerset, where he resided most of his life.

He worked at the former J. J. Corrugated Box Corp for 48 years, retiring in 2008. Jose was devoted to his family and enjoyed gardening, as well as fishing occasionally.

Besides his wife, of 56 years, he is survived by: four children, Richard Couto (wife Maria) of Somerset, John Couto (wife Christina) of Navarre, Florida, George Couto (wife Lorna) of Somerset, and Nancy Couto of Somerset; a brother, Emanuel Couto of Coventry, Rhode Island; four grandchildren, Kendra Couto, Nicholas Couto, Amanda Soares (husband Robert), and Dalton Briggs (wife Courtney); two great grandchildren, Silas and Laila; and many nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Pedro do Couto, Joao do Couto, and Clotilde Taveira.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, September 15th, in St. Thomas More Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick's Cemetery, both in Somerset.
