Jose DeOliveira, 82, passed away Thursday unexpectedly. Husband of Maria Melim for 59 years. Born in Porto Santo, Madeira, son of the late Semiao DeOliveira and Amelia Silvestre De Melim. A long time resident of St.Michael, Azores, he came to this city in 1990. Fondly known as the "Mayor of Merchant St.", he was always helping his neighbors in keeping their properties clean and enjoyed tending to his plants both inside and outside of his home. Beloved father of Fernanda Rodrigues (husband-Louis), Paula Desmarais (husband-William), Goretti Benevides (husband-Adriano), Maria Jose Drumond (husband-Pedro) and Ana Cordeiro (husband-Antonio; grandfather of Nelson and Antonio Rodrigues, Sonia Benevides, Joana and Joao Drumond, Bruno, Luis and Jose Cordeiro; step-grandfather of Jennifer, Joanne and Edmond Desmarais; brother of Pedro, Semiao DeOliveira, Isabel Melim, Carmo Fernandes and the late Georgina Dias, Maria Merces, Joao, Antonio and Manuel DeOliveira. He also leaves many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, January 17, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Oak Grove Cemetery.
