Obituary

Jose F. Silva, 83, of Fall River, husband of Ana (Araujo) Silva, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2020 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Freguesia de Chamoim, Terras de Bouro, Portugal, he was a son of the late Emidio DaSilva and the late Joaquina (Ferreira) DaSilva.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for FC Construction as a laborer for many years. He loved cooking, gardening, and hunting for rabbits and deer. Jose also enjoyed traveling frequently back to his homeland in Portugal and going on cruises with his family.

Besides his wife of sixty years, he leaves: his loving daughters, Maria "Jessie" Castanheira and her husband, Manuel, of Fall River, and Rose Fernandes and her husband, Joseph, of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Scott Castanheira and his wife, Tanisha, Brittany Fernandes and her long-time companion, Justin Cabral, Chelsea Cabral and her husband, Justin, and Logan Fernandes; two great-grandchildren, Vivyn Cabral and Vera Cabral; his sisters, Maria Cerqueira and her husband, Amadeu, of Fall River, and Jessie DaSilva and her husband, Manuel, of Berkley; brothers, Silvester DaSilva and his wife, Rosa, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Manuel DaSilva and his wife, Maria, of Westport, and Joao DaSilva and his wife, Custodia, of Somerset; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Antonio Silva and brother of the late Antonio F. DaSilva, Hortelinda F. DaSilva, and Manuel DaSilva.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, November 7th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
