Jose C. Garcia, 88, of Fall River, MA, passed away surrounded by his loving wife and children on Wednesday, January 27th after a short illness. Husband of Luisa (Carvalho) Garcia to whom he was married to for 62 years. Born in Varzea, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Vitorino Garcia and Alexandrina Correia. Jose immigrated to the United States in 1975. An avid Benfica fan, Jose rarely missed an opportunity to watch his favorite soccer team play. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Beloved father of Eusebia "Zee" Sousa (husband-Laurenio) of North Dartmouth, MA, Evelina DaRosa (husband-Manny) of Fall River, MA, Marilia "Lia" Furtado (partner-Ed Lake) of Fall River, MA, Suzette DeCastro (husband-Estacio "Stacey") of East Providence, RI, Dora M. Garcia (partner-Kelley Peters) of North Providence, RI and Kathy Sousa (fiancé-Chris Amorella) of North Providence, RI; grandfather of Sue Leandro (husband-David), Andrew Gomes (fiancée-Ali Vital), Tanya Vandenburgh (husband-Nick), Jessica (partner-Ryan Viveiros) and Eric Furtado, Gilbert and Megan Medeiros, Jared Sousa and Chase Amorella; brother of the late Manuel Garcia Aguiar and Maria do Rosario Garcia. Great grandfather of Kayla and Madison Leandro, Gracie Bouchard, Seth, Logan, and Zack Vandenburgh. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Maria Legassey, and several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, January 30th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
