Obituary

Jose F. Melo, Jr., 90, of Fall River, husband of Maria (Pereira) Melo, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at St. Anne's Hospital. Born in Terceira, Azores, a son of the late Jose F. Melo and the late Maria Agusta (Ferreira) Melo, he emigrated to Fall River in 1974.

A nurseryman for many years, Jose was employed as a planter at Hoogendoorn Nurseries of Middletown, RI – retiring in 2004. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards.

Besides his wife, of 56 years, he is survived by: two children, Constance Ciolfi (late husband Steve) of Fall River and Joseph D. Melo (wife Melissa) of Tiverton, RI; two grandchildren, Randy Melo (wife Debora) and Jacob Seth Martin (fiancée Holly Soares); a great granddaughter, Sawyer Valentina; and many nieces and nephews. Jose was also the brother of the late Joao Melo, Maria Jose Ferreira, Antonio Melo, and Manuel Melo.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, May 30th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
