Jose Martins Mota, 73, of Fall River, longtime companion of Maria Cabral, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, October 5, 2024, after a short illness. Born in Povoacao, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Fernando C. Mota and late Olinda (Moniz) Mota, he emigrated to Fall River in 1966.

Prior to his retirement, Jose was employed as a bus driver for many years with Tremblay Bus Co. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed rooting for the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics, and his favorite soccer team was Benfica.

Besides Maria, he is survived by: four children, Deborah Mota of Madeira Beach, Florida, Christopher Mota (wife Victoria) of Fall River, Kevin Mota (partner Julie Hitch) of Fall River, and Joey Mota of Swansea; two siblings, Manuel Mota of Swansea and Natalia Silva of Westport; five grandchildren, Tristan, Jasiah, Engracia, RJ, and Julianna; and several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, October 9th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
