Obituary

Jose M. Paiva, 66, of Berkley, husband of Natalie (Pires) Paiva, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Christmas Day after a long illness.

Born in St. Sebastian, Terceira, Azores, he was a son of the late Jose V. and Mary Jo (Martins) Paiva.

Prior to his retirement he was a machinist for Buffington Paper Box Company for many years. A true outdoorsman, he loved tending to his animals, fishing, and gardening. Jose was a "jack of all trades" and was considered to be a very hardworking man. He also enjoyed traveling to such places as New Hampshire, Upper New York State, Plymouth, Cape Cod, and Portugal. But what was most important to Jose was spending quality time with his loving family.

Besides his wife of forty-seven years, he leaves: his son, Joseph M. Paiva and Mandy Robbins and her husband, Nicholas, both of Berkley; two grandchildren, Tegan Robbins and Nyles Robbins; his sisters, Marylou Gouveia of Fall River and Anne Gendreau of East Greenwich, Rhode Island; his brother, John Paiva of Tiverton; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the nephew of the late Rev. Joao Martins.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, December 30th, in St. Bernard Church in Assonet followed by his committal at Berkley Common Cemetery in Berkley.
