Jose Papoula, age 82, passed away in Fall River on Thursday, October 27, 2011, following an extended illness. He was the husband of Jesuina (Almeida) Papoula of Fall River. Born in the village of Agua Retorta, on the island of St. Michael in the Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel Papoula and the late Maria Pereira. After residing in the Azores for thirty nine years he moved to Fall River in 1968 and was naturalized as a citizen of the United States. Jose was employed for many years at the former Chace Leather Products on Alden Street in Fall River and he was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church. In addition to his wife, Jesuina, surviving family members include two sons; Manuel Papoula (wife-Tina) of Westport, MA, and Robert Papoula of Fall River, a daughter, Luisa Lopes (husband-Daciel) of Swansea, MA, four grandchildren; Monica Papoula, Joshua Papoula, Adam Lopes, and Melissa Botelho, and a great granddaughter, Myka Botelho. He was also the father of the late Al Papoula. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, October 29, in Espirito Santo Church followed by a committal at St. Patrick's Cemetery on Robeson Street.
