Obituary

Jose Ricardo, 97, of North Dighton, formerly of Johnson and Healy Streets, Fall River, husband of Madeline (Araujo) Ricardo, passed away at home on Sunday, January 10, 2021 surrounded by family. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Jose Ricardo and the late Maria C. (Raposo) Ricardo, he grew up in the Azores; and in his mid-20s, after serving in the Portuguese Army, he moved back to Fall River where he resided most of his life.

Always a hard worker, Jose was a union laborer in the construction industry for many years. He enjoyed gardening, animals, and music – and was a musician with Filarmonica Fundacao Brasileira in St. Michael in his younger days.

Besides his wife of 72 years, he is survived by: three children, Anne Wicks (husband Wesley) of Fall River, RI, Joseph Ricardo (wife Cheryl) of Orlando, FL, and Susan Furtado (husband Steven) of No. Dighton, MA; eight grandchildren, Erica, Melissa, Jonathan, Joseph Jr., Nathaniel, Thomas, Alexandra, and Jacob; two great grandchildren, J.T. and Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Maria dos Anjos Sequeira, Manuel Ricardo, Jose Ricardo, Maria da Luz Medeiros, Maria Jose Pacheco, and Luis Ricardo.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, January 16th, in St. Joseph Church followed by his private committal and entombment at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Joe's memory to a charity of your choice or performing some act of kindness in honor of his kind-heartedness.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. If you were unable to do so, because of this pandemic or any other reason, all are urged to express their sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party.
