Jose Souza, 94, formerly of Church St., Tiverton, passed away Tuesday after a short illness. Husband of Elsie (Lopes) Souza with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Tiverton, son of the late John and Maria (Perry) DeSouto Souza. An Army Air Corps vetertan of WW II, Joe was a retired roofer and after working for National Contracting Co. founded the former Souza & Sons Roofing Co. Beloved father of Jose Souza, Jr. (wife-Beverly), John and Alan Souza; grandfather of Jose Souza, III, Keith, Matthew and Kimberly Souza, Alan Souza, Jr. and Lynne Bates; brother of Antone, Dennis and Robert DeSouto, Mary Murphy and the late John, Jesse and George Souza, Seraphin "Peter" and Irene Desouto, Gloria Medeiros and Margaret Thorpe. He also leaves a loving daughter-in-law, Janet Souza, 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, August 31, in Holy Ghost Church followed by his committal with military honors at Pocasset Hill Cemetery, both in Tiverton.
