Jose F. Tavares, age 99, died peacefully in his sleep at home in Fall River, Massachusetts, on Sunday, February 20, 2011. He was the husband of the late Teresa Viveiros Tavares. Born on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was a son of the late Jose Ferreira Tavares and the late Maria De Jesus Ferreira Tavares. A resident of Sao Miguel for most of his life, he worked as a stone mason for many years until he moved to Fall River in 1972. Jose worked as a baker for many years at the Faria Bakery in Fall River. He was a communicant of Good Shepherd Parish Church in Fall River. Surviving family members include his seven children; Maria Leonor Botelho and Maria Lurdes Correia, both of Fall River, Jose Tavares of Toronto, Canada, Norberto Tavares of Fall River, Elpidio Tavares of Bolton, MA, Manuel Tavares of Swansea, and Antonio Tavares of Fall River, a sister, Maria De Jesus Cabral of Fall River, twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jose was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. His Funeral Mass was celebrated at Good Shepherd Parish Church, South Main Street, Fall River. Pallbearers Joe Botelho, Scott Tavares, Ricardo and Joe Correia, Kevin Pereira and Rickie Tavares brought Jose to his final resting place at Notre Dame Cemetery
