Jose V. Cabral, age 82, of Fall River, passed away at the Sacred Heart Nursing Home in New Bedford, MA, on Sunday, July 20, 2014, following an extended illness. He was the husband of Lina R. (Pimentel) Cabral. Born in the village of Agua Retora on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was a son of the late Jose Vieira Branco and the late Encarnacao Cabral. Mr. Cabral was a self-employed carpenter in Sao Miguel where he constructed many useful necessities for the village such as ox carts, horse carriages, wine barrels, wine presses, and even caskets. After residing in the Azores for forty-five years he moved to Fall River in 1977 and worked in the textile trade at the former Quaker Fabric and also Frito Lay. Although working in the mills provided Jose with a steady income he continued to work with his hands creating scale models of the many things he built on the island and he also enjoyed tending his garden. Jose was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River. In addition to his wife, Lina, surviving family members include his three children; Adelino Cabral (wife Susana) of North Dartmouth, Roberto N. Cabral (wife Sue) of North Dighton, and Luisa Cabral of Fall River, two brothers; Mariano Cabral Vieira and Joao Cabral Vieira, both of Agua Retorta, Sao Miguel, six grandchildren; Kenneth Carreiro of Westport, Jason Carreiro of Fall River, Melissa Cole of Manchester, NH, Matthew Carreiro of Fall River, Aaron Cabral of Fall River, and Arianna Cabral of North Dighton, a great granddaughter, Ava Carreiro of Fall River, and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday July 25, in St Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
