Joseph Almeida, 89, formerly of Old Fall River Road in Swansea, died Saturday, at the Country Gardens Nursing Home in Swansea, following an illness. He was the husband of the late Isabel (De Mello) Almeida. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Manuel Almeida and the late Mary (Cabral) Almeida. A Fall River resident for many years, he was employed at the former Narragansett Foundry until the company went out of business. After the foundry closed he worked at Southeastern Massachusetts University, now known as University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, until his retirement. Joseph was a communicant of St. Dominic Church in Swansea and a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River. Surviving family members include a son, John Almeida of Somerset, two daughters, Nancy A. Rezendes of Swansea, and Patricia A. Stanfield of South Carolina, four sisters, Mary A. Costa, Rose A. Maloof, Linda A. Teves and Candida A. Rodrigues, fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. He was also the father of the late Joseph Almeida, Jr. and Mildred Kirby, and brother of and the late Mary A. Pimental. his Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Joseph Viveiros, was offered on Wednesday (11/14) in St. Dominic Church, Swansea. Committal services followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea. Pallbearers were Chris Stanfield, John Almeida, Michael Almeida, David Rodrigues, John Rodrigues and Curtis James.
