Joseph "Farmer Joe" Arruda, 64, of Fall River, companion of Janice Cashman, died Thursday 1/20/11 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Fall River, son of the late Manuel & Eleanor (Whitaker) Arruda, he was raised in Tiverton by his aunt & uncle, Jean & Tony Moniz of Arruda Dairy. A truck mechanic for many years until an early retirement, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Mass. Mini Tractor Pullers and had enjoyed stock car racing in his younger days. Besides his companion, he leaves: 8 children, Melissa Cavaco-Read, Peter, Mackenzie, Diana, Joseph Jr, Manuel, Jerry & Pilar Arruda; several siblings; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. On Tuesday, January 25th, family and friends gathered to celebrate "Farmer Joe's" life which included a touching service conducted by Fr. Ciro Iodice at our Fall River Chapel.
