Obituary

Joseph T. Azar, 91, lifelong resident of Fall River, passed away on April 3, 2009. Devoted husband of the late Zachree "Toni" (Shaker) Azar. Born in Fall River, son of the late Thomas and Mintaha (Joseph) Azar. A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1935, he went on to serve in the US Army during WWII, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. In his youth, he was quarterback for the former Roughriders, a local football team. He worked as a civil engineer for over 25 years for Mass. DPW – Highway Division. He was also a registered land surveyor. A recipient of the Marion Medal, he was a devoted and active parishioner of St. Anthony of the Desert Church where he was a cantor for over 50 years and a member of their St. Sharbel Society. He also belonged to the Lebanon American Men's Society & Veterans Association. Beloved father of JoAnn Bullard (husband – Bill), Barbara Terrio (husband – Jim), Lynn Abdow (husband – Michael) and Jeanne Padilla (husband – Jim); beloved grandfather of CDR William A. Bullard, III (wife – Sarah), Andrea Bullard, Jonathan Terrio and Christopher Abdow; devoted and loving great grandfather of Liam, Fay, Olivia & Joshua Bullard; beloved brother of Jemail Lepage and the late Alice Cook & Margaret Assad. Loved dearly by his adopted sons, Azar, Nick and Sam Hanna of California and his many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Anthony of the Desert Church. A delegation was present representing the Viveiros School. Pallbearers Mike and Chris Abdow, Jim and Jonathan Terrio, Bill and Andy Bullard and Jim Padilla brought Joseph to his final resting place at Notre Dame Cemetery. Nick and Sam Hanna served as honorary pallbearers. In his memory,donations can be made to Camp Erin Fund (for grieving children) c/o Hospice, 502 Bedford St., Fall River 02720
