Joseph Coute, 104, of Westport, formerly of Fall River, husband of the late Mary (Cabral) Coute, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021, at Crestwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Warren, RI. Born in Newport, Rhode Island, a son of the late Jose Coute and the late Isabel Soares (Perreira) Coute, he resided in Fall River most of his life, and had also land in Maine where he enjoyed vacationing.

A marine engineer in the shipping industry, he had worked aboard various cargo vessels all over the world for many years. Joseph served his country honorably as a chief engineer with the U. S. Coast Guard-Merchant Marine during World War II – in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Middle East, and Pacific war zones.

He is survived by: two children, Teresa Kinkead of Staunton, Virginia, and Joseph Michael Coute of Westport, MA; three grandchildren, Kelly, David, and Scott; several nieces and nephews. His siblings, Mary (Conte) Maria, Frank Conte, and Edith Coute, all preceded him in death.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, October 18th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by a private cremation. His cremains were laid to rest with his late wife privately at Notre Dame Cemetery.
