Joseph Dias, age 72, of Fall River, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, following a brief illness. He was the beloved companion of Geraldine Raposa. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late John Baptista Dias, Sr. and the late Irene (Moniz) Dias. A lifelong resident of Fall River, he was employed for many years in this city's garment trade as a buck presser at the former M & G Sportswear Inc., and the former Shelburne Shirt Co. and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Mr. Dias also worked as a bartender at the former Fall River Bowling Green Club and the Liberal Club. He was a life member of the Liberal Club, past member of their Board of Trustees and a member of the club's Sport Fishing Association. Joseph was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of the Angeles Church in Fall River. In addition to his longtime companion, Geraldine, he was a father to her children Sheryl Raposa of Fall River, Manny Raposa of Westport, and the late Brian Raposa, and grandfather to Tara Gregory and Kyle Gregory, both of Fall River. He also leaves four brothers, Anthony Dias and wife Pamela of Westport, Germano Dias of Westport, Alphonse Dias and wife Ruth of Florida, and Carl Dias of Florida, a sister, Rosemary Chaine of Georgia, a sister in law, Veronica Medeiros of Westport and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late John Dias, Jr. and his late wife Virginia. His funeral service was held at our Fall River Chapel followed by his committal service at Notre Dame Cemetery.
