Joseph G. Pereira, age 74, of Somerset, Massachusetts, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015, following an illness. He was the husband of Maria (Moniz) Pereira. Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Henrique Pereira and the late Maria (Carreiro) Pereira. After residing in the Azores for twenty-five years, and serving in the Portuguese Army, he immigrated to the United States in 1965 and was naturalized as an American Citizen. Joseph was employed for many years in the textile trade of Fall River as a machine operator at Swan Finishing. He was a parishioner of St John of God Church. In addition to Maria, his wife of 49 years, surviving family members include his two daughters; Jenevieve (Roy) Ferreira of Florida, and Nancy (Roy) Mota of Somerset, a brother, Henrique Pereira of Somerset, four grandchildren; Crystal, Matt, Jordan (Britney) and Marissa, a great granddaughter, Adele, and several nieces and nephews. Joseph was also the brother of the late Joao Pereira, Luzia Raposa and Manuel Pereira. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, May 28th in St. John of God Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Somerset.
