Obituary

Joseph Gonsalves, 91, of Fall River, husband of Lorraine (Rapoza) Gonsalves, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Joseph Gonsalves and the late Maria (Rodriques) Gonsalves.

A United States Veteran, he bravely and proudly served his Country for four years in the Air Force. Prior to his retirement, he was a letter carrier for the United Postal Service for many years. A devout Catholic and former member of Our Lady of Health, he was a recipient of the Marian Medal and served as a Eucharistic Minister. An avid New England sports fan, he also loved golfing and managing the Maplewood Little League. He was a longtime member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Swansea Country Club. Joseph also enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife to such places as Rome, Paris, Portugal, California, and Hawaii.

Besides his loving  wife of sixty-four years, he leaves his three sons, Joseph J. Gonsalves and his wife, Mary, of Alpharetta, Georgia, Gregory J. Gonsalves and his wife, Eva, of Falls Church, Virginia, and Douglas J. Gonsalves and his wife, Nadine, of Punta Gorda,  Florida; his four grandsons, Joseph Daniel Gonsalves (wife, Susie), Joseph Kjell Gonsalves, John Paul Gregory Gonsalves, and Joshua Gonsalves; his great-granddaughter, Adna Claire Gonsalves;  his brother, Alfred Gonsalves of Fall River; one niece, Megan Bettencourt, one nephew, Adam Rapoza; and his cousin, Jimmy Freitas. He was also the brother of the late John Gonsalves.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, February 19th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal with Military Honors at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
