Obituary

Joseph Jerome Pacheco, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at the St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Nilsen) Pacheco. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Joseph F. Pacheco and the late Alcilia (de Medeiros) Pacheco. A lifelong resident of Fall River, he was employed for over twenty years as a forklift operator in the receiving department of Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc., of Warwick, Rhode Island. Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served through World War II as a ships cook. Following his discharge from active duty in 1946, he enlisted in the U S Navy Reserve and was subsequently reinstated to active duty in 1947 for service in the Korean Conflict. He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church in Fall River. In addition to his wife, Mary, surviving family members include a son, Joseph J. Pacheco, Jr., of Fall River, two daughters; Donna Avalos of Sacramento, California, and Paula Cunha of Fall River, a brother, Peter Pacheco of Fall River, a sister, Virginia Mullins of Somerset, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Maria Rodrigues. His Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at St Anthony of Padua Church. He was laid to rest in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
