Joseph Medeiros, age 83, of Somerset, passed away on Friday, February 6, at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Cecilia (Silvia) Medeiros. Born in Ajuda, Bretanha, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was the son of the late Luis Medeiros and the late Francisca (Costa) Medeiros. After residing in the Azores for twenty six years he moved to Somerset in 1968 and was naturalized as a citizen of the United States. He was employed for many years in the garment trade retiring from the former W E B Sportswear Inc. as a foreman. He was a veteran of the Portuguese Army. Joseph was a communicant of St. John of God Church in Somerset. In addition to his wife, Cecilia, he leaves two sons, Thomas J. Medeiros of Orlando, FL, and Paul P. Medeiros and wife Cathy, of Dartmouth, a daughter, Theresa A. Dube of Swansea, four sisters Mrs. Luis (Mary) Furtado of Swansea, Hilda Rapoza of Fall River, Mrs. Guilherme (Nelly) Carvalho and Mrs. William (Irene) Costa, both of Somerset, five grandchildren, two great granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was offered in St. John of God Church on Tuesday (2/10). Interment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Somerset.
