Joseph Carlos Mello, 74, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at St. Anne's Hospital. Born in Agua Retorta, Povoacao, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Jose T. de Melo and the late Belmira (Pereira) de Melo, he emigrated to Fall River in 1956, moved to California in 1983, and returned to Fall River in 1994.

For a number of years, Joseph worked as a mechanic at a specialty motorcycle repair shop, customizing bikes for the California Highway Patrol. He was later employed at Lightolier of Fall River until its closure.

He loved his antique 1971 Citroen automobile. Joseph also enjoyed reading, classical music, and pursuing philosophical inquiries.

He is survived by two siblings, Alda M. Melo of Somerville and Louis A. Melo (wife Lorrie) of Fall River, and two nieces, Alexandra Mello of Fall River and Olivia L. Mello of Somerville.

His cremation arrangements were private. The family is planning to hold a memorial gathering at a later time.
