Joseph S. Rego, Jr., 67, of Fall River, beloved husband of Beverly (Francis) Rego for 39 years, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 18th at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Olivia (Lopes) Rego. Mr. Rego was the former Administrator of Public Utilities for the City of Fall River until his retirement in 2001. A 1958 graduate of Msgr. Coyle High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps, and after serving 4 years, he returned to school earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Univ. of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1968. His career with the City, beginning with the Water Dept in 1969, spanned 32 years, lasted through at least six different administrations and included memberships in the American Water Works Assoc., New England Water Works Assoc. and Mass. Water Works Assoc. He was a member of the Lebanese-American Men's Society, Prince Henry Society and was a United Way Volunteer and member of their Lantern Society, a charter member of the Fall River Evening Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors and as Vice-President of Fall River Recreation, Inc. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of the Desert Church and a former parishioner of St. Michael's Church; instructed CCD at both churches for 33 years and was a member of the Holy Name Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also a member of the Thomas Chew Memorial Boys Club and Friends of Ballroom Dancing. Joseph was a devoted father to his daughter, Susan Chabot of Tiverton, and son, Todd Rego of Fall River, and loving grandfather of Joshua Chabot & Deanna Chabot, and several nieces, cousins and friends. Funeral was held on Saturday, September 22nd, in St. Anthony of the Desert Church. Committal services with military honors followed at St. Patrick Cemetery. Pallbearers were Peter Nassiff, Robert Karam, Russell Rego, Larry Ferreira, Aaron and Rick Chouinard.
