Joseph S. Farias, Sr., 94, of Tiverton, died Thursday at Village House, Newport, RI. Husband of the late Dorothy (Costa) Farias, and, formerly, husband of the late Adeline (Dutra) Farias. Born in Fall River, son of the late Agostinho & Marianna (Travassos) Farias, he moved to Tiverton in 1960. Prior to his retirement 30 years ago, he was employed for many years in the construction industry and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1305. He also co-owned and operated with his brother the former Ferry's Gym where local area prizefighters trained. He was an active member and former board director of the Police Athletic League in Fall River. Father of Angelina Kittrell of Florida, Joan Ayash & Eileen Robidoux both of California, Joseph & Thomas Farias and Thomas Cox all of Fall River, and Mary Ann Cloutier of New York. Brother of Marianna Luz & Nero Farias both of Fall River, George Farias of California, and the late Augustine, Angelina, Manuel, John, James & Antone Farias. He also leaves 22 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, August 23, in St Anthony of Padua Church followed by a committal service at Notre Dame Cemetery.
