Joseph Souza, 87, of Fall River, passed away on Sunday. He was the fiancé of Maria Cantelmo, with whom he has shared the last 25 years. Born in New Bedford, son of the late John & Deolinda Souza. Together with his brother, John, he owned and operated the former Souza Brother's Market in Fall River. Joseph loved to fish and was an active member of the Madeira Club in New Bedford, having helped coordinate the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament for many years. Besides Maria, he is survived by sons, Joseph Souza, Jr. of Silver Lake, NH and Ronald Souza of Portsmouth, RI; a daughter, Cynthia Laba of Shrewsbury; step-children, Paul J. Cantelmo of Fall River, Lance E. Cantelmo of Somerset and Tara Botelho of Fall River; 10 grandchildren; 3 great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late Richard Souza and brother of the late John Souza, Mary Jorge, Josephine Mello and Eliza Garcia. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, August 9, in Good Shepherd Parish Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
