Joseph V. Velozo, Jr., 83, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center, after a time of declining health. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Joseph V. Velozo and the late Mary E. (Rocha) Velozo, he was a lifelong resident of Fall River. He earned a B.S. from UMass and a master's degree from URI.

He was a teacher for many years in the Fall River public school system and was employed for a time as an insurance agent with Metropolitan. Joseph also served as a Fall River City Councilor and was a member of several local area civic organizations. He loved his dogs, sports, and candy.

He is survived by: two brothers, Dennis M. Velozo (wife Betty) of Westport and Richard J. Velozo (wife Susan) of Lake Wales, FL; two grandsons, Kim Andrew Fischer, who resides in Germany, and Zachary Schwartz of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews.

Following his private cremation, a Memorial Gathering was held on Tuesday, February 8, in our Fall River Chapel. His cremains were late buried with a private committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
