Obituary

Josephine C. Chamoun, 75, of Fall River, wife of Boutros Chamoun, passed away unexpectedly on Monday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Beyrouth, Lebanon, she was a daughter of the late Chukri and Nassab (Dib) Matar. Devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Josephine served as a beacon of light for her family, consistently righting the ship even in the roughest of seas. She lived her life and raised her family in accordance with the  Maronite Catholic faith; her devotion was a defining trait of the woman her family, friends, and acquaintances knew her to be. Josephine's strong will, supportive nature, and mastery of culinary arts are just a few things that defined her. In addition to her husband of fifty-six years, she leaves: her children, Antoun Chamoun and his wife Rima of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Ellisar Elhajj and her husband Antoine of Fall River; five grandchildren, Sarah Joe Chamoun, Sabine Chamoun, Patrick Elhajj, Peter Anthony Chamoun, and Alan Elhajj; sisters, Ivonne Abdo (late-husband Habib) and Therese Khalife (late-husband Elias) both of Lebanon; a brother, Abdo Matar and his wife Mahboubi of Lebanon; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Antoine Matar, Latifeh Matta, Marie Karam, and Warde Matar. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, May 26th, in St. Anthony of the Desert Church followed by her committal at Oak Grove Cemetery.
