Obituary

Judite M. Sardinha, 75, of Highland Ave. and formerly of Plain St., died Sunday at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, and raised in Ponta Delgada, daughter of the late Francisco and Maria Medeiros Sardinha. Judite was a teacher in Ponta Delgada until moving to Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1961, where she served as a teacher for 17 years before moving to Fall River in 1978, and taught English at the former Frank M. Silvia School until her retirement in 1992. She was known as a humanitarian, always volunteering and helping with charities, such as feeding the hungry. She also loved to write poetry and enjoyed painting. She was a sister of Manuel Jose Medeiros Sardinha of Fall River, Maria dos Anjos Campos (husband Manuel) of Somerset, Lydia Sardinha Medeiros (husband Rogerio) of Ponta Delgada, the late Manuel Francisco Sardinha, Maria Joana Resendes, Victa-Germana Medeiros, and Lourdes Medeiros Sardinha. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Funeral was held Thursday, July 19th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Pallbearers were Emanuel Campos, Mark Aguiar, Nuno Puim, David Sardinha, Michelle Gagne and Duarte Botelho. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery.
