Julia P. (Goncalo) Gomes, age 91, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton, Rhode Island. She was the widow of the late Manuel M. Gomes. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Joao P. Goncalo and the late Julia (Pereira) Goncalo. A resident of Fall River for many years, she was employed in the garment trade of that city at the former Stella Anne Frocks until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. In 1948 the family purchased a summer residence in the Common Fence neighborhood of Portsmouth, RI, and in 1962 became permanent residents of Portsmouth. Mrs. Gomes was a parishioner of St Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River. Surviving family members include a daughter, Irene E. Morss of Westport, MA, two sons, Russell F. Gomes of Portsmouth and Ronald M. Gomes of Swansea, MA, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a great great grandson, and many nieces & nephews. She was also the sister of the late John Goncalo, Walter Goncalo, Louis Goncalo and Florimundo Goncalo. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at St Anthony of Padua Church. Pallbearers were Tom and Mark Enwright, Chris, Russell and Jeffrey Gomes and Moe St. Gelais. Her committal service was held at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
