Obituary

Kathryn Garrity Burns, 66, of Swansea, wife of Paul F. Burns, Sr., passed away, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late John Francis Garrity and the late Evelyn (Brum) Garrity.

After many years as a production scheduler at Joan Fabrics, Kathryn worked for a number of years at Thomas W. Renaud, CPA, an accounting firm. She earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMass Dartmouth).

Kathryn loved reading, gardening, and spending time with her family. She devoted her life to caring for those around her. Her home always had an open door, an open seat at the table, and an open ear for her friends. Many will miss her strength, patience, devotion, and kindness.

Besides her husband of 40 years, she is survived by: three children, Kaitlyn G. Burns (husband David Peat) of Swansea, Patrick J. Burns of Swansea, and Paul F. Burns, Jr., of Phoenix, Arizona; three granddaughters, Annabelle, Connor, and Rowan; and a nephew, Brendon F.S. Garrity. Kathryn was predeceased by her sister, Colleen F. Garrity.

Following a private cremation, Her Memorial Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, April 5th, in the Mount Hope Catholic Community at Saint Dominic Parish Church in Swansea. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Kathryn's memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284; 800-525-4669; www.dana-farber.org/gift .
