Laurina
Medeiros
d. Dec 29, 2025
Laurina (Rego) Medeiros, age 95, passed away peacefully, following a lengthy illness, on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River. She was the devoted wife of the late Jose Medeiros, with whom she shared over 30 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, Laurina was the daughter of the late Manuel Mariano Rego and Emily (Pacheco Medeiros) Rego. She was a proud graduate of Diman School for Girls, Class of 1948.
A faithful communicant of Espirito Santo Church, Laurina lived a meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and kindness. In her younger years, she sang in the choir at Immaculate Conception Parish and volunteered at the Espirito Santo Parish kitchen and at the Great Feast of the Holy Ghost of New England.
Laurina was a natural caregiver for many members of her family over the years, always showing kindness and unwavering love for all of them. She loved gardening and travelled throughout the United States, and back to her Portuguese roots to visit family in the Azores.
She worked for 28 years as a sample maker for sweaters at the Fall River Knitting Mills. After retirement, she expressed her creativity in various artistic accomplishments, notably by crafting-stained glass. Her work encompassed crosses, lamp shades, kitchen cabinet inserts, window panels, and custom ornaments, providing unique and treasured gifts for family and friends.
A talented seamstress, she designed and made clothing for herself and family members and had professional tailoring ability to make coats and outerwear. In 2019, she became a dedicated member of the Flint Senior Citizens Center after moving into the Fall River Knitting Mill Apartments, her home until 2025.
She leaves her niece and devoted caregiver, Joyce Rodrigues, and her precious miniature schnauzer, Daisy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen (Medeiros) Rego, along with additional loving nephews and nieces: Claude Rego, Gregory Rego, Alan Rego, Sheila (Rego) Charles, Cynthia (Rego) Thibault, George Rego, Jr., Andrew Rego, Shirley (Rego) Black, Marie Rego, and Lucia Gertrudes. She was the sister of the late Manuel Rego, Jr., Frank Rego, Phoebe (Rego) Rodrigues, David Rego, and George Rego. Laurina will be missed by longtime family neighbors and friends Jaime and Elaine Medeiros, and daughters Lauren and Nicole Medeiros of Somerset, MA.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the following medical support staff for Laurina, during this past year: Beacon Hospice, St. Anne's Hospital, and the second-floor nursing staff at Catholic Memorial. Their kindness brought great comfort and peace during a challenging time. Their professional care will always be remembered with deep gratitude.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, January 5th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal and entombment at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Laurina's memory to Forever Paws Animal Shelter, 300 Lynwood Street, Fall River, MA 02721.
