Obituary

Lawrence (Larry) Gene Mitchell passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025. He was surrounded by those whom he loved and who loved him. Larry was born in Norwich, CT and was a 1970 graduate of Norwich Free Academy and an enthusiastic and lifelong Yankees and Patriots fan.

Larry was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be remembered for his sense of humor and kind, warm and generous spirit. He loved animals although he and his parrot, Harpo, did have a somewhat strained relationship.

He is survived by: his beloved wife Cathy; daughters Becky Mitchell and her husband Jimmy Menacho, Ainslee Benoit and her husband Dave, and son Matt Danis and his wife Nichole; his granddaughters Cierra, Courtney, Leah and Avery, grandsons Logan and Justin; great-granddaughter Mina; his brothers David and James, and stepbrother Gary Gagne. Larry was predeceased by his parents and sister, Barbara.

Larry loved the Marx brothers' (Harpo, the bird?). We think that his sense of humor at this sad time would appreciate the lyrics sung by Groucho as Captain Spaulding in Animal Crackers, "Hello, I must be going! I'm glad I came but just the same I must be going, la_la!

Following a private cremation, A Celebration of Larry's Life, to honor and share memories of him, was  be held on Friday, Dec. 5th, at the Polish American Citizens Club in Uncasville, CT. The burial of his cremains will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The American Heart Association in Larry's memory.
