Lazaro J. Carreiro, age 85, of Fall River, passed away at home on March 7, 2009. He was the husband of the late Maria Estrela(Faria) Carreiro. Born in the village of Povoacao, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was a son of the late Jose Carreiro Marcelino and the late Honorina (Chicharro) Marcelino. After residing in the Azores for forty two years he moved to Fall River in 1966. Lazaro worked for many years in the textile shops of this city and was also employed in the construction trade as a mason. He was a veteran of the Portuguese Army and a member of the Don Carlos Club. Surviving family members include two sons, Jose I. Carreiro of West Warwick, RI, and Lazaro F. Carreiro of Fall River, three daughters, Ana Maria Bernardo of Westport, MA, and Maria Irondina "Dina" Sousa and Eduarda Pacheco, both of Fall River, a brother, Isidro Marcelino of Fall River, two sisters, Josefa Teixeira and Eduarda Moniz, both of Fall River, ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. He was also the brother of the late Carmen Marcelino and the late Maria Medeiros. His funeral Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Fall River. Pallbearers Paul Sousa, Jeffrey and Edward Pacheco, Joseph Teixeira, Joshua Carreiro and Paul Napier brought Lazaro to his final resting place at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
