Leonard Michael Oliver's Obituary
Leonard Michael Oliver, 80, passed away peacefully July 15, 2015 at his residence in Pittsfield, Maine after a long battle with cancer. He was born February 2, 1935 in Dighton, a son of Manuel and Mary (Butler) Oliver. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War as a Military Policeman in Puerto Rico.
Leonard attended the Somerset School, joined the Army and attended the Massachusetts School of Barbers under the G. I. Bill. He worked for Rocky's Barber Shop in Taunton, where under the tutelage of Tony Galavartti's supervision, he received his Master Barber license. He later worked for Larry's Barber Shop, opened his own shop on Clark Street in Somerset, and retired from the Raytheon Corp. after 22 years. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield, ME. Leonard enjoyed being with all the grandchildren when they visited. He liked to golf, go to the casino, and travel. He was an avid New England Patriots fan.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara (Di Nucci) Halpen Oliver of Pittsfield, ME; children Joanne Albergaria of Taunton, Steven Oliver and wife Donna of Fall River, Leonard Oliver, Jr. and wife Tracy of North Dartmouth; step children Christine Carter and husband Kelley of Pittsfield, ME, Everett Halpen II and wife Shelley of Taunton; sisters Eileen Souza of Tiverton, RI, and Elizabeth Margarida of Greenville, RI; grandchildren Matthew and Sarah Albergaria, Zachary and Nikole Halpen, Jessica, Alexandra and Kevyn Oliver, Jacob and Sandy Warden, Brenden, Nicholas and Catherine Carter; and his former wife Alice (Costa) Oliver of Somerset.
Leonard was predeceased by brothers and sisters Agnes Brillo, Eleanor Cordeiro, Evelyn, Joseph, Lawrence and Alfred Oliver and Theresa Bessette.
The family would like to thank the Maine General Hospice team for their wonderful care and guidance in taking care of Lenny, especially Catherine Knox Turner, RN, Nicole Marsha and Lori Martin.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, July 20th, in St. Patrick Church, South St., Somerset followed by his committal with military honors at St. Patrick Cemetery also in Somerset.
