Obituary

Libania "Lilliana" Melo, 91, of Fall River, wife of the late Manuel De Melo, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 after a brief illness.

Born in Lombinha DaMaia, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Ana Julia (Couto) Mota.

Prior to her retirement, she was a seamstress in the local garment industry. She loved cooking, baking, crocheting, and sewing. She also very much enjoyed traveling with her late husband to visit her homeland. The "Matriarch" of the family, Lilliana was also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished spending quality time with all of them.

She leaves: her children, Liliana M. DaRocha and her husband, Manuel, Rose M. Ferreira and her companion, Christopher Turek, Germaine M. De Melo, Manuel A. De Melo and his wife, Gloria, all of Fall River, and Walter De Mello (late wife, Donna) and his partner, Paula Roy, of Fairhaven; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Germana Moniz (late husband, Joseph) of Fall River; two brothers, Edwin Mota and his wife, Ezaltina, and Germano Mota (late wife, Maria), both of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Natalia Dias, Maria Governo, Briolanja Oliveira, Fernando Mota, Horacio Mota, Antone Mota, and Januario Mota.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, January 18th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
